Looking for somewhere to continue practising your pottery skills after completing a class? The 2 hour studio drop in session is a great way to improve your skills, with the freedom to practice at your own pace. Our studio is welcoming to all, whether you wheel throw or hand build. Designed for hobbyist ceramic artists who want to expand their skills or get up to speed before attending future classes.

Drop In Studio Sessions can be purchased in packs of 4 sessions. This gives potters ample time to make and trim all work ready for the bisque fire. Each 4 pack includes a 5kg bag of mid-fire buff stoneware clay and the cost of the bisque firing for that clay. You can purchase more clay at the studio if you intend to make larger pieces, no "outside sourced clay" is allowed in the studio.

Drop In Studio Sessions are for working with greenware clay, at all stages before the bisque fire. For glazing please book in to a Glaze Orientation Session to be granted access to the Glaze sessions.

Required Skills

Due to limited space the Drop In Studio sessions are reserved for people who have previously taken a recurring class (4 weeks or more) at RB Pottery and can show basic pottery knowledge. If you have previously attended a 4 week class at the RB Pottery studio you should have received an email with the link to become a Drop In member. If you have not received the email please contact us.

There will be a waitlist available for non-alumni potters with intermediate pottery experience from other studios. A "show and tell" private session is required to show your pottery knowledge before being granted access to the drop in program. Please contact us to book a "show and Tell".

Pottery knowledge is defined as an understanding of all the basic fundamentals of wheelthrowing, and the different steps and stages that clay goes through. You must be able to work independently. There will be a studio tech onsite during the drop ins to greet you and for any emergencies, however they are not there to teach or provide any guidance. If you are unsure about your skills, please contact us and we can schedule a chat or a "Show and Tell" session.

Due to size we are not a studio base for production potters, if you're making larger quantities to sell your product we recommend finding a studio that can fire a larger volume of work.

Your first drop in will include a 15 minute studio orientation to give you a run down of how the drop in sessions work, what is expected of you for the clean down, and what areas/ tools you can use. There will be basic trimming tools provided but we suggest buying/ bringing your own if you want specific tools.
